UAM Master Trainers Program

Mathematics is a subject that many children hate. This is often because children are taught Maths by rote and they end up experiencing failure, thereby developing a fear of Mathematics.

Universal Active Mathematics (UAM) is a program developed by Navnirmiti, Mumbai that promotes the understanding of basic mathematical concepts through ‘Learning by Doing’.

Navnirmiti-Sethu conducted a 5-day intensive UAM training program in Panaji, from 26th to 30th May 2008, to prepare 8 Master resource persons to teach Maths and work for the universalization of primary mathematics in the state of Goa. Another 2 teachers from Kerala attended the training.

Conducted over 5 days, this workshop covered topics such as conceptual and stepwise introduction to numbers using Universal Active Mathematics program, addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions and decimals.

We hope that the trained participants will form a cadre of resource persons to spread the practice of UAM all over Goa, through collaboration with the Navnirmiti-Sethu team. The UAM program has been successfully implemented in Sanguem taluka during the last academic year and is likely to be implemented in Canacona and Sattari talukas in the coming year.
