Gnyandeep 2011

The Gnyandeep preschool teachers training program began in April 2006 and we can hardly believe that so many years have gone by already! It has been a time of vast learning, lots of fun and openness to novel ideas about teaching and learning in preschools. This year's training course commenced in June 2011. Our 6th batch of 12 trainees are presently in the middle of a hectic schedule of lectures, practical exercises and assignments on topics such as child development, curriculum and special needs. The various units are: Child Development, Principles of Learning, Phonological Awareness & Phonics, Reading, Writing, Maths, Art, Music and Rhythm, Dramatics, Self-Help skills, Teaching the Child with Special Needs, Working with parents and Classroom management. We have a competent and creative group of resource persons, which includes Sethu staff as well as experts in the field of education such as Anna Coelho, Nadisha Coelho, Sujata Noronha and Lester Vaz.

The feedback from the previous batches of Gnyandeep trainee teachers has been heartening. One of our teachers reported "I have started using phonics in my classroom and I have observed that my class has found it much easier to pick up the sounds as compared to my previous classes."
