A Parent Training Workshop
Autism is a developmental condition that affects a child's ability to communicate and interact with those around him. In recent years, there has been a marked increase in the number of children being diagnosed with autism. Unfortunately, trained therapists who can provide the teaching which is so important in bringing about improvement in the child's condition, are not easily available. Therefore the burden of teaching falls on the parents, who often feel unsure and overwhelmed with this responsibility.

Aarambh, is a training program conducted by Sethu, specifically designed for parents whose children have been recently diagnosed with autism, to give them the knowledge and skills required to teach their children.
The 4 day parent training workshop was conducted in January 2011 and dealt with the following topics:
Understanding Autism
Use of Structure
How to Play with Your Child
Moving from Play to Communication
Handling Challenging Behaviors.

Parents were given information, shown videos and various skills were demonstrated to help them manage challenging behaviors & develop effective communication, with the eventual aim of making their children more socially competent.
Aarambh is conducted at regular intervals for families of children who have been recently diagnosed with autism.Those families who would like to attend the next session, should call Michelle at Sethu on 6513749.
